Caused by: Pramipexole (Mirapex) and ropinirole (Requip), used to treat Parkinson’s and restless legs syndrome (RLS), which causes a strong urge to move the legs, especially at night and when sitting or lying down. What happens: In addition to reducing unwanted movement, those drugs, called dopamine agonists, can affect the part of the brain responsible for impulse control. About 20 percent of people taking one of them for Parkinson’s show compulsive behavior that may involve binge eating, sex, shopping, and gambling, according to a two-year study of 321 patients published by Mayo Clinic researchers. Those patients who took higher doses saw higher rates of the side effect. What to do: Tell your doctor if you have a history of compulsive behavior, and make sure that family members know about the risk. lllegal to use to rent out your own apartment

On Monday, New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman demanded that popular apartment-sharing site Airbnb release user data on an estimated 15,000 New York City apartment hosts to help launch an investigation on its legality in the city. The interest in investigating stems from a 2010 law that makes it illegal to use to rent out your own apartment in New York City. There's a lot of gray area within the laws when it comes to startups like Airbnb that operate on a share-economy platform, but Airbnb maintains everything they do is completely within their legal right.

Her name is Rebecca Rubin. She is 9 years old and lived on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1914. And she's causing a bit of a sensation as the newest American Girl, because she's also Jewish.

The new doll is part of a series of historical dolls manufactured by American Girl, a subsidiary of Mattel, and the first with an explicitly religious affiliation. Her backstory (the dolls all have backstories) was written by a local children's author, Jacqueline Dembar Greene, who lives in Wayland, and the company's local store, at the Natick Collection, is holding an event to promote the doll at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday, May 31). The books tackle some central elements of the early American Jewish experience -- immigration, labor conditions, the celebration of Christmas in public schools -- as well as iconic locales, from Ellis Island to Coney Island, and the Lower East Side.

The Separation of Powers Which Define Our Democracy Have Been Destroyed

The Department of Justice told a federal court this week that the NSA’s spying “cannot be challenged in a court of law”.

(This is especially dramatic given that numerous federal judges and legal scholars – including a former FISA judge – say that the FISA spying “court” is nothing but a kangaroo court.)

Also this week, the Department of Justice told a federal court that the courts cannot review the legality of the government’s assassination by drone of Americans abroad:

“‘Are you saying that a US citizen targeted by the United States in a foreign country has no constitutional rights?’ [the judge]  asked Brian Hauck, a deputy assistant attorney general. ‘How broadly are you asserting the right of the United States to target an American citizen? Where is the limit to this?’

“She provided her own answer: ‘The limit is the courthouse door’ . . . .

“‘Mr. Hauck acknowledged that Americans targeted overseas do have rights, but he said they could not be enforced in court either before or after the Americans were killed.’”

(Indeed, the Obama administration has previously claimed the power to be judge, jury and executioner in both drone and cyber-attacks.  This violates Anglo-Saxon laws which have been on the books in England and America for 800 years.)
